Produces hemp-based soaps and foods. They donate a portion of their profits to work to make hemp farming and hemp products legal. Their site contains interesting information about hemp and the government’s unfair and unwise treatment of, and concern about, hemp.
Dr. Bronner’s has spent loads of money to fight the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, which has foolishly worked to make hemp products illegal, and to keep industrial hemp illegal to grow in the U.S. In February 2005 the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ordered the DEA to pay $21,265 to Dr. Bronner’s to compensate the company for the money Dr. Bronner’s spent on legal fees to fight the DEA’s dangerous drug war paranoia activities to outlaw products containing hemp.

At Ecolution we have always been devoted to finding the most environmentally conscious solutions in all of our activities. For example, we already produce all of our hemp fiber with strictly ecological methods of natural mechanical processing – in marked contrast to the harsh chemicals used for processing hemp fiber in China.
Since 2001, Ecolution has been cultivating hemp organically in the Satu Mare area of western Romania. These fertile plains are ideally suited for growing hemp and cereal crops.
As pioneers in developing organically grown fiber hemp, we have taken many steps to effectively establish organic hemp cultivation. First we hired an “eco-agronomist” to research and develop the best methods of organic hemp agriculture and to monitor this cultivation to ensure its authenticity. We cultivated a relationship with a farmers’ cooperative, convinced them to work with organic agriculture, and then we invested in this farming experiment directly by paying significantly more for the organically grown hemp. In order to substantiate these efforts, we engaged an organic certifier and integrated this program with the rest of our activities.”

“A $50,000* Challenge to the World to Prove Us Wrong:
If all fossil fuels and their derivatives, as well as trees for paper and construction were banned in order to save the planet, reverse the Greenhouse Effect and stop deforestation; then there is only one known annually renewable natural resource that is capable of providing the overall majority of the world’s paper and textiles; meet all of the world’s transportation, industrial and home energy needs, while simultaneously reducing pollution, rebuilding the soil, and cleaning the atmosphere all at the same time... And that substance is – the same one that did it all before – Cannabis hemp… marijuana!

“Hemp has been eaten for thousands of years in different parts of the world. It’s the seed that we eat, and it’s beneficial in terms of protein and essential fatty acids. People in Persia used to eat it, and they still do, actually. I know Iranians who grew up eating toasted hemp seeds. There’s evidence that goes back thousands of years that it was being eaten in China and in different places around the world for those health benefits. Hemp has kind of had a renaissance starting in the early 90s. I was part of the lobby that helped to legalize or re-legalize hemp in Canada, which we accomplished in 1998 for commercial growth. Since then, I have been producing a line of hemp foods to spread the news and the nourishment of hemp.
… I’ve personally stood in a burning field of hemp, and if you wanted a buzz, you’d have to drink a beer.”
